Rafael Landicho dominates an International Competition

“There is really no secret for winning, but a consistent effort to train yourself to achieve more.” Thus, Juan Rafael Landicho, a Sixth Grade Valiant Knight, emphasized after bagging the Gold Award in the International Teenagers Mathematical Olympiad (ITMO) held at Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City, November 8-12.

Rafael Landicho received a Gold Award and defeated the other contestants from different countries in the Individual Competition. Moreover, he was part of the Red Team of the Key Stage 2 (Category for Grades 5-6 participants) which won the Champion in the Group Competition and First Runner up in the Team Contest.

Close to 500 contestants and coaches from 16 countries around the world arrived in Davao for the ITMO. The said event was participated in by delegates from Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, South Africa, Russia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines, according to Dr. Simon Chua, Chief Operating Officer of contest organizer Mathematics Trainers Guild Philippines (MTG).

Landicho highlighted that consistent training helped him a lot to achieve such numerous feats. He is attending the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG) at the Hope Christian School Manila and at the Arellano University.

“My mom also helped me a lot in preparing for the competition because she always tells me that relaxing my mind will help me to process information better,” Landicho added.
