Another world-class laurel for SSIS! Young knight Maria Bernadette M. Landicho copped a silver medal in the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held at Singapore last August 15, 2015.

Armed with her innate mathematical gift and her rigid training in SSIS, Kumon, and MTG, Bernadette aced the 90-minute challenge that aimed to test the contestants’ ability to calculate, analyze, and reason out. The multiple choice challenge used a point system where unanswered questions were equivalent to zero, correct answers were marked two, and wrong answers were penalized by deducting one point. For the non-routine questions, each correct answer was given four points. Thus, getting an award in the said Olympiad is like getting through a needle-eye. This is her second international win in Math, as she won a bronze in SASMO last summer. The SIMOC is organized by the same group of education specialists who organized SASMO for the past 10 years. It can be remembered that Bernadette’s older brother Rafael recently got a silver in SASMO and a silver in China Primary Math Olympiad.

Kudos to Bernadette’s teachers and coaches, and to her parents for their unwavering support to our young achievers.
