July 2019 – The young Mathletes of Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat Campus have been very busy this summer bagging awards from prestigious competitions across the globe – the International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) in Malaysia, Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) in Singapore, Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest (PMWC) in Hong Kong, and World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) in Japan.

Last June 16-19, 2019, incoming Grade 5 student, JOMER WILSON LEE, bagged a GOLD medal in the 2019 International Mathematics Wizard Challenge (IMWiC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  With about 500 contestants from Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, PJ is one of the 43 gold medallists, who contributed to the impressive victory of the Philippine team.

Grade 6 student, JOM RILEY KAW, also demonstrated his prowess in Math when he won two Bronze medals in the 5th Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) held in Singapore last July 7-8, 2019.  Jom participated in the Math Olympiad, which is a 25-question written test; and the Math Warriors category, which has students do mental sums as well as strategic thinking with some element of luck using differently shaped dice.

Another Grade 6 student, MICHAEL GERARD TONGSON, was part of the Philippine Team that competed at the 22nd Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest last July 16-19, 2019 in Hong Kong.  Michael won an individual SILVER medal; and grabbed first runner-up as part of the team, getting silver medals and a trophy.  A total of 144 students joined this year’s PMWC from US, Australia, South Korea, China, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines.

On the same week, six Kings also competed in the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) in Fukuoka, Japan as part of the Philippine team.  The Filipino delegation competed against 21 countries; and our little math wizards all brought home awards:  AIDAN GILLES ROSITA snatched a Gold Medal; IRISH YOHANN BALAHADIA, ALYANA MARQUEZ, KEISHA ZHEANNA BACAY, and JAN FELIZA SISCAR received Silver Medals; while KEISHA SOPHIA MISSION got a Bronze Medal.

Congratulations, KINGS!  You have indeed made this Summer 2019 a very fruitful and meaningful one.  The whole community of SSIS Malarayat is very proud.  What a great inspiration as we open another academic year!  Quant je puis!  Always wear your invisible crown!
