For the second straight year, Stonyhurst Southville International School – Malarayat Campus bagged one of the top awards in the National Robotics Competition facilitated by the Mechatronics and Robotics Society of the Philippines. This year’s competition was held last December 5-6, 2018 at the World Trade Center; interspersed in the World of Consumer Electronics Expo (WOCEE).

The team, composed of Joshua M. Dimaano, Sean Patrik P. Gatpo, and Jan Emanuel A. Guico of Grade 12 South Africa, was hailed 2nd Runner-Up in the VEX IQ Category competing against 24 schools nationwide including De La Salle Zobel, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Southville International School and Colleges, and Philippine Normal University among others.

Their winning robot is a product of their intensive conceptualization and brainstorming. The team created their own conveyor and catapult which gives the robot the ability to get the ball (a mini
football) and launch itself to shoot through the goals.

Another participating team composed of Simon Nathaniel A. Cabaguio, Adrian Clarence R. Mendoza, and Hyun Ho Rho of Grade 7 Brazil for participating and performing well in the competition.
Kudos also to Ms. Alona Macahia for coaching and training the students with grit and growth mindset;and to the supportive parents as well.
